Challenge & Solution
[ The Challenge ]
Traditional paper character sheets become messy and hard to update during gameplay. Digital alternatives are often cluttered with unnecessary features or lack the tactile feel players love. We needed a solution that felt natural, fast, and focused on what players actually need during sessions.
[ The Solution ]
We developed a clean, responsive web application with real-time spell tracking, automatic calculations, and an offline-first architecture. The design prioritizes quick access to frequently-used features while maintaining the aesthetic charm of classic D&D character sheets.

Key Learnings
- → User research is invaluable: Playtesting with real D&D groups revealed critical pain points that weren't obvious from the design phase, like the need for quick spell slot recovery tracking.
- → Progressive enhancement matters: Building with offline-first principles ensured the app works smoothly even in basements with poor connectivity—exactly where most sessions happen.
- → Design systems accelerate development: Creating a component library inspired by classic D&D aesthetics made the interface cohesive and the codebase maintainable.
- → Balance complexity and simplicity: Advanced players need depth, but new players need clarity. Layered information architecture solved both needs elegantly.
